Fancy Nancy: Every Day is Earth Day by Jane O’Connor/Robin Glasser

Summary -
This is a fun, creative picture book about a little girl name Nancy.  Nancy understands the importance of being “green” and the consequences of not caring about the earth.  The book describes ways that Nancy suggests for her family to take care of the Earth, which is so important to her.     This book also has a very helpful glossary of “big words” in the back of the book for reference.

Teaching Points -This book would be great to use with younger children.  Children can relate to Fancy Nancy and support her endeavor to help make the earth a healthier place.  Many of the ideas that Nancy suggests in the books are practical for students to do at home as well.  Teachers can have students pick a cause to support and come up with ways to support that cause them and with their families.  This Fancy Nancy book is appropriate not only for topics concerning conservation, protecting the earth, and minimizing the human effects on the planet, but they are also about kindness, advocacy, and motivation.
